Nella poesia il termine 'inventare' assume un significato nuovo. Quello di inventare se stessi, di riscoprisi.

Così Charles Bukowski in No Leaders, Please spiega la necessità di rimanere fluidi, creativi, indipendenti e presenti nella vita. Questa poesia è un importante promemoria per ricordarsi di inventare se stessi, crearsi liberandosi dalla conformità per non lasciare mai che le persone ti dicano "questo è chi sei e come sei".
